Closing for renovation

The Waihemo Service Centre and Library in Palmerston is to get a make-over by the Waitaki District Council and will close while that happens.

The dentist's surgery is not affected, but the council's main office will close to the public at 4pm on September 3 and reopen on September 15.

The library will close from 5pm on August 25 until September 21.

Customer contact team manager Pam Hicks acknowledged the closure would cause inconvenience but said people could still phone the Palmerston office or call into the council's Oamaru office.

District library manager Philip van Zijl said the renovation also provided some opportunities to review things such as floor layout so there was an environment where everyone felt comfortable and was able to access books and other materials easily.

The lending period has been extended from August 26 to September 21 to accommodate the period of closure.
