A competition day organised by a co-ordinating committee for Otago and Southland Rural Women New Zealand and Women's Institute branches has attracted more entries than expected.
Regional president Noeline Bowman (left), of Kakanui, and district president Nancy Bell, of Oamaru, are pictured unwrapping the haul.
Organisers have received 140 entries, almost double what was received in Invercargill last year.
They will be on display at the Kakanui Hall next Wednesday, following morning tea at 10am and an official opening by Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher at 11am.
Antarctic historian and researcher David Harrowfield will speak on the Antarctic, African Inspired Dancers will perform, there will be a parade by the Red Hatters and displays ranging from teddy bears to beads and china painting.
The eight competitions are for a necklace made from shells, hand-made bon voyage card, beach scene photograph, sun hat, towelling beach bag, pair of stay-on bootees, three fabric flowers and three sandpit biscuits.
