Man charged with speeding,drink-driving

A 23-year-old Oamaru man has been charged with drink-driving and driving at a dangerous speed after he was clocked at 119kmh in a 50kmh zone on Awamoa Rd, Oamaru, on Saturday morning.

The man, who had a breath-alcohol level of 730mcg, had his licence automatically suspended for 28 days.

The incident happened at 2.30am, Sergeant Wayne Brew said yesterday.

A 31-year-old Israeli tourist received minor neck injuries after losing control on the Lindis Pass and crashing a vehicle into a rock wall, near the top of the pass, on Saturday morning.

A diesel tanker and trailer unit, registration A758G, was reported as stolen from O'Neill Contracting, in Omarama, between 8pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.

The tanker contained 900 litres of diesel.

Another seven vehicles were interfered with and items taken.

Police are seeking sightings of a car, believed to be a light green Commodore or Ford, which crashed on Ardgowan Rd, near Oamaru, on Friday night.

The vehicle crashed into a paddock, damaging the fence, but the driver decamped, Sgt Brew said.

Wanaka police arrested and charged 12 people with various offences on Friday and Saturday and dealt with one minor car accident.

Constable Phil Vink said the incidents included:

A 19-year-old Dunedin man charged with unlawfully being on a Wanaka property and theft; a 45-year-old man charged with obtaining a bottle of wine from New World supermarket by deception; three 20-year-old men, from Kaitangata, Rangiora and Christchurch, charged with fighting on Ardmore St outside the entrance to the Bullock Bar; a 21-year-old Dunedin man charged with offensive behaviour; a 21-year-old Invercargill man charged with disorderly behaviour; a 25-year-old Invercargill man charged with obstruction; a 37-year-old Invercargill man charged with offensive behaviour; a 20-year-old Riversdale man charged with offensive behaviour; a 23-year-old Waikaia man charged with fighting; and a 20-year-old Invercargill man charged with disorderly behaviour.

Five people received minor injuries after the driver of the car they were in lost control on gravel on Cemetery Rd, Lake Hawea, about 2.20pm on Saturday.
