As part of the council's annual review of company directorships, Oamaru accountant Adair Craik was appointed to take over from council chief executive Michael Ross, who had been a director of Tourism Waitaki since 2004, and Dunedin-based chartered accountant Steve Thompson was appointed to take over from Natalie Evans, following her six-year stint on the board of Whitestone Roading.
Mayor Alex Familton said the council was impressed with the calibre of the applicants for this year's review and had been pleased and encouraged to be able to attract applications from people with ''a great depth of ability and experience''.
''Ms Craik brings with her not only valuable business and accountancy skills, but also a high level of enthusiasm for and experience with the development of the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail.
''Mr Thompson has considerable experience as a tax consultant and business adviser working with both public and private institutions, and also brings with him 20 years of governance experience covering a wide range of industries, including roading and contracting.''
Mr Familton paid tribute to the contributions of the two retiring directors.
''Both Mr Ross and Ms Evans have contributed a great deal to these companies. Their contribution has been invaluable and council thanks them for their service to the boards.''
The incumbent directors were appointed to the council's two other companies, Omarama Airfield Ltd and Waitaki District Health Services Ltd.
