Dr Jeremy Hay said patients had to endure rather chilly rooms in the old Waikouaiti medical centre and he often worried they would get even sicker after half an hour in the old building.
The old building was so cold, heaters had to be kept running constantly.
The new health centre was positioned to the sun and had good heating, he said.
Dr Hay and Dr Don McKirdy will practise from the new rooms in the new Waikouaiti Events Centre.
The health centre will be open from Monday to Friday, with opening hours remaining the same as for the previous centre.
The practice has been renamed East Otago Health, with health centres at Palmerston and Waikouaiti.
The doctors will hold clinics at Hampden and Warrington.
Dr McKirdy said he was very pleased with the work undertaken by the East Otago Health Trust, which oversaw fundraising and the establishment of the new health centre at Waikouaiti.
A Waihemo Pharmacy depot would open in the Waikouaiti Events Centre on July 14, Waihemo Pharmacy owner Adrian Graamans, of Palmerston, said.
