Plans to position Oamaru as the "playcentre of the universe" are to be discussed next week.
A public meeting will be held at the Oamaru Opera House at 5.45pm on September 11, to discuss how to create a collaborative programme that would allow children, families, schools and visitors to experience Oamaru through learning and playing.
Meeting organiser and North Otago Museum curator Chloe Searle said the idea had been mooted for some time.
Staff from the museum, Oamaru Library and the Forrester Gallery had been collaborating to share cultural, literary and heritage resources with children and families, Miss Searle said.
Several people "with a passion for education" would also attend the meeting.
"We are hoping it will be a chance for all those involved in education to get together and find out what everyone is offering and how we can work together."
It could provide a platform to establish a school camp programme, she said.
