Oamaru Police are looking for a man who allegedly tried to entice a child into a car.
About 8.10am this morning a 12-year-old girl was walking on Solway St towards Salesyard Rd, Oamaru when she was stopped and spoken to by a male in a red utility vehicle.
A police spokesman said the man tried to get the girl into his vehicle.
She refused and was able to escape.
The vehicle was last seen heading up Solway St towards the main road.
The man was described as being possibly under 50 years of age wearing a black cap and sunglasses.
He was described as having dark hair that was starting to grey.
The vehicle was described as a red well side utility with a dent in the passengers door and another dent towards the front of the vehicle.
Police ask anyone with information about the vehicle and or its occupant to contact Detective Kevin Kirkman, of Oamaru, on 021 191 4798.
