Waitaki tourism manager resigns

Tourism Waitaki general manager Glenn Ormsby has resigned.

Mr Ormsby is leaving Oamaru to become chief executive of a new tourism venture in Tauranga, Waitaki Development Board chairman Peter Robinson said yesterday.

In a statement, Mr Robinson said Mr Ormsby had delivered "real growth" to local tourism activity.

His main responsibilities had been focused on destination and product development.

Highlights of his three and a-half year tenure included the rebranding of the district with a new website, billboards and several brochures.

Mr Ormsby, who starts his new job next month, said he was "very optimistic" for the future of the Waitaki district.
