Construction of the $110,000 timber pedestrian bridge spanning Oamaru Creek near the Oamaru Creek penguin reserve is "almost complete" and the bridge will open this month, Waitaki District Council roading manager Michael Voss says.

Mr Voss would not give an exact date for the opening as wire struts were coming from another supplier to complete the project.

About half the cost of the project was picked up by the NZ Transport Agency because the bridge was "an integral part of the cycleway link from the harbour through to the north end of Oamaru".

The bridge will replace the former concrete pedestrian bridge over the creek north of Friendly Bay, which was condemned in 2014 and demolished in 2016.

Only $110,000 for footbridge in Oamaru and estimated $1.2 million for useless cycling bridge in Dunedin harbor and another $10 to $20 millions for another useless pedestrian bridge project.
DCC how are you going to explain it to your employer aka ratepayers?
