To be held at the Bullock Bar, in Wanaka, on the Saturday of Labour Weekend, this year's search for the perfect woman will be condensed to just one day, rather than the usual two, mainly to avoid a clash with the Rugby World Cup final, but also to make the event more accessible to women.
"A lot of the girls find it hard to commit to two days," co-organiser Jocelyn Cook said.
"[The new format] allows people to still come up for the day instead of having to take the whole three days [of Labour Weekend] off."
Miss Cook said the events, which include carrying a goat carcass, speed pool, beer drinking, hammering a nail, and skinning a rabbit, would be "more chilled out and not as intense as they have been in the past".
"We're sticking to the simpler events, just so we can cater to everyone and do it all in the same day."
Bullock Bar co-owner Brendan Quirke said although the event had a "bit of a drop off two years ago", it was looking strong again.
Already, more than 25 women had registered, including mothers, hairdressers, farm workers and preschool teachers.
"We'll take everyone, but if you get more than 30 it's pretty chaotic on the day," Mr Quirke said.
"It can get a little bit competitive but most girls don't care if they don't win, because they just have so much fun."
The competition raises funds for local cancer charity CanLive Trust.
