Approval for toilets at the Recreation Ground

The Queenstown Recreation Ground has been chosen as the site for new public toilets.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council's community services committee approved the new toilets near Memorial St, at a cost of $115,000, at last week's meeting.

Project manager Russell Engelke said in a report to the committee the Wakatipu Rugby Club had approached the council to proved public toilets for use during events and meet a need in the area as the nearest toilets were on Athol St.

Mr Engelke said initially the toilet under Memorial Hall was considered for refurbishment but it was not suitable because it was used as an emergency fire escape for the club change rooms.

He said a Novaloo unit with two separate toilets, including one accessible toilet, would be installed.
