Queenstown artist and illustrator Spike Wademan puts the finishing touches to the huge backdrop of the "Austrian Alps" for the coming production of The Sound of Music.
Mr Wademan and fellow Queenstown Art Society member and artist Hamish McBride used pins and string to form 32 squares on the 10m by 5m canvas. They painted by squares from dark to light from a computer composite image for the musical production to be staged by Showbiz Queenstown.
"It's not meant to be a painting in its own right that people come to look at rather than the actors," Mr Wademan said.
The Sound of Music will be staged in the Queenstown Memorial Hall from May 17 to 26.
