Police believe a person attempted to climb a crane tower to gain access to the cab early on Monday.
Constable Terry Wood said officers responded to a report that there was someone on the Post Office Precinct building site, next door to the police station, about 1am.
"Someone tried to get into the cab [to] have some high jinks but they were unsuccessful in getting in," Const Wood said. There was no damage to the crane or cab.
The crane company reported the incident yesterday and has asked police to monitor the site.
