Council building crack superficial: report

An engineering report has confirmed a cracked council building in Wanaka requires only superficial repairs to structural cladding.

Lakes Property Services managing director Joanne Conroy told Queenstown Lakes district councillors at a finance and corporate committee meeting in September about a large crack that had opened up in brickwork of the council's Wanaka service centre building.

Engineers were called in to assess the building and estimated the "superficial" crack to be "several years old" Lakes Property Services manager Dan Edgerton said yesterday.

"The crack appears to be significant, but there is no risk of any sudden failure in the structure," the report says.

Any structural repairs to the building's foundation could cost between $10,000 and $15,000.
