Aerial daredevils launched themselves through the mountain air to entertain the crowd at the start of the Cardrona Games last night.

Spectacular stunts have always been the signature of Cardrona's annual games event.

The games were billed as the "biggest snowsports party of the year", by the skifield and took place under lights this year, for the first time.

Snowmobile riders and motorcycle team the Crusty Demons amazed the crowd, but some of the biggest gasps were saved for the snowboarders and freeskiers who performed their aerial feats without the aid of engines.

In the Crusty Demons are Dunedin-based motocross rider Cam Smith, alongside Invercargill riders Blake O'Connor, and Bosse Mikkelsen.

Central Otago snowsports athletes, such as Jossi Wells and Mitchell Brown are also taking part in the night-time event and are hoping to win some of the $40,000 prizemoney.
