The founder of Dick Smith Electronics, Australian Geographic Magazine and Dick Smith Foods will visit Queenstown in September to speak at a seminar.
An Afternoon with Dick Smith is scheduled for September 14 and also includes insight from business and environmental commentator Rod Oram, and Student Volunteer Army co-ordinator Sam Johnson.
As well as guiding his successful businesses, Mr Smith is a keen adventurer, having flown solo in a helicopter around the world and also flown in a balloon from New Zealand to Australia.
He has been the recipient of numerous awards, such as Australian of the year and adventurer of the year.
He was noted for advocating sustainable environmental practices within his businesses and for this he had received the Lindbergh Award for preserving a balance between technical advancement and environmental preservation.
Event organiser Andrew Martin, of Oneness Publishing, said the Friday afternoon timing was expected to attract people from around New Zealand to attend and spend the weekend in Queenstown.
"Queenstown's a great place to come for the weekend and this provides an excellent excuse to leave the office early on a Friday and engage in a future focused discussion before a short break."
The event was organised by Otago Polytechnic's Centre for Sustainable Practice and the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce with proceeds going towards the community initiative Shaping our Future, which sought to address local issues through community collaboration.
