Driver took off from police

A man who allegedly pulled his car over for police early yesterday then sped off before police could talk to him was arrested a short time later.

The 19-year-old man was initially stopped on Frankton Rd in Queenstown about 2.30am but sped off on State Highway 6 towards Cromwell, police said.

The man, driving a 1998 Silver Toyota Altezza, was said to be in breach of bail conditions.

The vehicle, with the driver sitting inside, were found in Alec Robins Rd near Lake Hayes after a member of the public informed police.

The car's driver was taken into custody.

Senior Sergeant Darryl Lennane, of Dunedin, said the man was faced several charges, including failing to stop, dangerous driving and breaching bail.
