Griffin and his parents, Matt and Monica, were among more than 500 people who visited Shotover Primary School for the first time at a public open day on Sunday
His verdict? ''I like it.''
Mrs Parker, a primary school teacher, agreed, saying the new school's buildings looked ''fantastic''.
''It's exactly the type of school I've been seeing gaining popularity around the world.
''It's not a new way of teaching, but it's needs-based, rather than age-based. It's definitely the way forward.''
Their younger son, Sebastian, would start at the school next month, when he turned 5.
''It's what I had as a kid.''
Principal Ben Witheford said the builders handed him the keys to the school last Friday, and it was now a ''hive of activity'' as staff organised learning resources and arranged equipment and furniture.
A barbecue for pupils and their families would be held on Thursday, and 88 children would start their first full day on Monday.
A total of 115 children had enrolled to start this year so far.
Mr Witheford said the typical reaction of visitors at the open day was one of amazement.
''It's not what they conceived. They were quite amazed by the learning spaces and how well they worked.''
The school is opening for years 1 to 4 this year and the majority of enrolments are in years 1 and 2. It will open to children in years 5 to 8 next year.
