Southland MP Joseph Mooney has traded in Queenstown suburbia for a Central Otago lifestyle block, but he is staying within his Southland electorate.

The National MP, who was first elected in 2020 and has lived in Queenstown for about 10 years, said he and his family wanted "a bit of land to put the horse on".

"We tried to put a lamb on our [Shotover Country] front garden years ago, but it didn’t work out."

Though he would no longer be "within spitting distance" of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables skifields, he expected he would continue to have a regular presence in Queenstown and would still also have an electorate office in the resort.

He is living on a property in the Alexandra-Clyde area.
