Jumping from a plane at 12,000ft is not everyone's idea of a family day out.
But for three generations of the MacKay family it was just right.
John MacKay and Hamish MacKay of Alexandra, and 92-year-old Bill MacKay, of Wanganui accomplished the family feat at Skydive Wanaka on Saturday.
The three generation skydive was in celebration of Hamish's 18th birthday.
Hamish said he invited his father John to join him because he did not want him to miss out, but he never imagined his granddad would also take part.
None of the men had been sky diving, and Bill had spent ''a decent week'' making the decision to join his son and grandson on the adventure.
There were no signs of nerves from any of the men before the skydive.
Bill said he was unsure if he could get nervous.
''I'm not nervous.
''At my age I don't know if I could get nervous.''
It was uncommon to have new experiences at his age so it would be good to try something new, he said.
''I'm just used to sitting in the sun,'' Bill said.
''But it's not that exciting, really, so this is a bit of a change.''
Despite his relaxed attitude towards the prospect of jumping from a plane, the 92-year-old was adamant that it would be both his first and last skydive.
''It will only be the once,'' he said.
Skydive Wanaka harnesser Ben Marshall said the 92-year-old was one of the oldest people to skydive with the business.
After a 15-minute ascent the men jumped from the plane at 12,000ft.
Following a short free-fall, Hamish said the men were able to come within ''high-fiving distance'' of each another.
Back on solid ground, all three described the experience as ''amazing''.
Asked again if he would go skydiving, Bill said ''if the opportunity comes along.''
