The New Zealand Transport Agency and Queenstown Lakes District Council have awarded a contract for design changes to the Glenda Dr intersection at Frankton, and for a new roundabout where the proposed eastern access road connects with the nearby State Highway 6.
NZTA Otago-Southland highway manager Ian Duncan said GHD Ltd had been awarded a contract worth about $300,000.
He said the project would improve access to the Glenda Dr commercial area, which would become available via the eastern access road and an interconnecting local road.
The eastern access road would also provide access to commercial and residential development planned for the Frankton Flats.
Improved safety on the state highway was a key aim. A construction contract was expected to be tendered later this year, so construction should begin before Christmas.
