Glenda Dr intersection roundabout a step closer

Another move towards establishing a new $6.46 million roundabout to relieve the crash hotspot Glenda Dr intersection was rubber-stamped by a Queenstown Lakes District Council subcommittee yesterday.

The committee approved the notice of requirement for the construction and operation of a new road linking Glenda Dr and State Highway 6.

Council transportation planning manager Denis Mander told the committee he was in discussion with the New Zealand Transport Agency on how funds would be brought forward next year.

It was anticipated agency would contribute 53% of the $2.2 million for a small part of the unformed eastern access road from the proposed highway roundabout, which would eventually connect the highway with Remarkables Park via the Queenstown Airport's runway end safety area.

The funds would also help pay for the unformed road between the eastern access road's own roundabout and Glenda Dr, that would run parallel to the highway, plus a short section of Glenda Dr.

The council will now lodge the notice of requirement with Lakes Environmental, which will serve notice to affected parties.
