The inquest into the death of Fenton William Tisdall will be held in the Queenstown Coroner's Court in February.
It was initially intended to have the case heard tomorrow, but it has been postponed.
Mr Tisdall (29) died after a motorcycle accident near Cromwell on December 31, 2006.
He had been travelling from Wanaka, and the accident happened just past the intersection of State Highways 8B and 6.
After travelling 200m and hitting a drainage ditch, he was thrown from his motorbike.
His body was found four days later.
Mr Tisdall's death had been examined by Coroner Alan Macalister, and in June 2009 Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said the inquest had not been held earlier due to an ongoing investigation.
