Senior pupils in years 7 and 8 came up with their own ideas of what to sell and organised about 10 stalls for the fair, as part of the leadership skills they learn.
They will run stalls selling lolly bags, home-made cup cakes and other goodies, all while enhancing their team work and self-management abilities.
The senior pupils have also dressed as the likes of Red Riding Hood, Mary Poppins and Captain Jack Sparrow and advertised the fair, using handmade placards, to morning rush-hour motorists, on Frankton Rd, this week.
Pupil Riley Chandler (12) said running stalls taught them to save money and make a profit.
Georgia O'Malley (12) said the pupils practised their communication skills by making many sales calls to Wakatipu businesses to ask for donations, discounts and sponsorships.
"The support was very generous," Georgia said.
The book fair project "teaches you to manage your time frame".
First prize in the $3-per-ticket raffle is a return economy Air New Zealand grab-a-seat flight for four from Queenstown to the Gold Coast, including five nights' accommodation in a two-bedroom apartment at Mantra Broadbeach on the Park.
Second prize is a wilderness safari family package for two adults and two children, courtesy of Dart River Jet Safaris. The third prize is a $100 parking card for Man St car park.
The raffle will be drawn on May 16.
Principal Trisch Inder said residents could continue to drop off books and bric-a-brac during school hours today and a volunteer would be on hand to collect on the Sunday.
The school community aims to raise $20,000 from its biggest fundraiser of the year, about the same as last year.
The fair runs from 10am to 2pm.
