In this week's Off Piste, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak driver Luke Mayall, of Sheffield, England, shares some stories from days playing chauffeur to skiers and boarders.

Name:
Luke Mayall.

Job title: The Remarkables and Coronet Peak driver.

Q) How many seasons have you been in the job and why did you choose it?

A) Second season with NZSki, first in the Transport Department. I chose this job as I love working in the snowsports industry, but wanted a more challenging role.

Q) How would you describe the work?

A) The work is very customer- focused - we are often the first NZSki employees the guests meet, so it is our role to be as helpful and informative as possible. The driving can often be challenging as you are never sure what you will find around each corner, but it's awesome on a bluebird day when everyone is stoked to be heading up riding.

Q) What's the best thing about it?

A) The team, the trucks and the time off to ride.

Q) And the worst?

A) Fitting chains in the snow.

Q) How would you describe life in Queenstown?

A) Queenstown is extremely hectic and there's always a party going on somewhere. It's extremely difficult to be bored in this town, even if you don't ski/board. There are so many free activities, you just have to dive in and make the most of this incredible place.

Q) What's the best advice you have for someone moving to Queenstown for seasonal work?

A) Arrive early. That way you won't be flying home without a job, which is often the case.

Q) What has been your most amusing skifield experience to date?

A) I've had several "embarrassing" incidents on the skifield. Last year I was working in front of Alta chairlift, completely forgot that the chairs move and received one to the body ... let's just say the chairlift was the winner.
