In this week's Off Piste, the Remarkables retail team leader Dane Brazier (28), of Toowoomba, Australia, tells us about the highs and lows of his job.

What's involved in your job?

I'm running the SnoShop up at Remarks. We're selling all kinds of snow gear. Gloves, beanies, goggles, sunnies, neck warmers and tons of other things; basically everything you need to keep you warm and have a rad day on the mountain.

What skills or experience do you need?

Most importantly you have to be good with people; you need to be able to relate to people easily and have the confidence to strike up a conversation with everybody. Being enthusiastic about the products helps a lot. I love all the stuff I'm selling. If I could, I'd wear everything at the same time!

What were you doing before you joined NZSki?

I was working as an office administrator for a real estate company back home. But I'm not an office guy and I missed the snow. Being back for my third season for NZSki is awesome! Feels like home.

Highs of the job: I get to work on the mountain; all the people that come up here are super amped and excited. All my colleagues are amazing people; we really have a great team up here. Checking out cool new sunnies and goggles on a daily basis never gets old either. And of course I love to put some big smiles on my customers' faces.

Lows of the job: Sometimes it's hard to be stuck inside on a perfect bluebird day.

Your most memorable skifield moment: First time riding Homeward Run at the Remarkables after a HUGE dump. Pure awesomeness!

Best part of living in Queenstown: Vudu coffee, Patagonia brownies and Harry's [Pool and Sports Bar] pizza!

Worst part of living in Queenstown: Apart from Queenstown sometimes being overpriced, it's just the place I want to be at this stage of my life.

Best piece of advice for people who come here for the season: Make the most of what's out there. There is so much to do in and around Queenstown, from hiking to rock climbing, jet-boating to bungy jumping. Don't just spend your days off hung-over on the couch.
