At least three male staff members at a Queenstown cafe will go topless on October 26, to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The men of Post Office Cafe would strip off above the waist and work as normal on the Friday, from 3pm to 5pm. Entry to the cafe would be by gold-coin donation, Wai Dining Group co-owner-director Jan Rae said.
"Any other chefs in the district can come by and join us," she said.
The promotion is the highlight of the group's backing of the "Chefs love breasts" campaign, the first time the New Zealand Chefs Association (NZCA) has endorsed Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Pink collection boxes were requested by the group and placed for donations in its eateries - Post Office Cafe, Bella Cucina, Wai Waterfront Restaurant and Finz Seafood and Grill - throughout October.
The NZCA celebrates International Day of the Chef every year on October 20 as a member of the World Association of Chefs Societies.
This year, the NZCA has chosen to use the day to support breast cancer awareness in New Zealand, and each of the eight branches has "pink-themed" activities planned to raise funds for its chosen charities.
NZCA national communications manager Carmel Clark, of Auckland, said she hoped more Wakatipu chefs would get behind the campaign.
