Kinloch resident Al Angus is incumbent Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden's only challenger.
He has previously described himself as ''just a practical guy'' and is also contesting the Wakatipu ward councillor candidacy.
Why are you standing for mayor?
''Standing for mayor started off without really thinking it through, just to give people a choice. However, the support has been truly surprising, so if they want me there, I'm willing.
''Will you be a hands-on mayor and why?
Absolutely. I'm a very practical person; hands-on is all I know.
What position do you think the district is in?
I'll give you the answer to that if I get in.
What are three issues facing the incoming council?
The conference centre, infrastructure and credibility.
What would be one thing you would like to have achieved by the end of your term and why?
Have more community input in council decisions; we seem to have gotten disconnected somewhere along the way.
Do you think Wanaka people are adequately catered for by the Queenstown Lakes District Council and why?
No, and the why is because they are constantly telling me this is the case, so you've got to believe them.
Is affordable housing for Queenstown Lakes an issue for the council?
I think the council should certainly encourage any affordable housing proposals and possibly be in partnership with another party.
