The Queenstown Lakes District Council has extended its Young Photographers Photo Competition, allowing budding snappers to get out over the summer holidays and capture the essence of Queenstown.
Council communications assistant Jo Blick said entries had been due to close this week, but the deadline had been extended to January 27.
"We felt the kids maybe needed a little bit more time. It's been a busy end to the year and now they've got the summer holidays to get out there and take some really cool photos.
"A lot of kids will get cameras and cellphones for Christmas, so they can get out there and use them."
The competition was aimed at all children in the Lakes district, aged from preschool to secondary school. The council is looking for pictures which tell the story of where we live.
From the entries, the council will select images to feature in the three volumes of the Queenstown Lakes District Council 10-Year Plan, to be published in April.
The photos will also feature in an exhibition to be displayed in Queenstown and Wanaka in April.
One photograph will be chosen by Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden and the winning photographer will receive a new digital camera.
Ms Blick said images could be emailed, posted or dropped in to council offices, with an entry form attached.
Each young photographer could enter as many images as they liked. Entry forms can be downloaded by following the link to the "Kids Photo Comp" on the council's website, www.qldc.govt.nz
