The annual Classic Hits Winery Tour will return to the Wakatipu with an all New Zealand line-up of acts "all right up there in their field", organisers say.

The nearest venues to Queenstown the popular tour has played in its seven-year history were three shows in Millbrook Resort, Arrowtown, and two at Olssen's Vineyard, Bannockburn.

However, the promoter announced this week the 2013 tour will stop in Gibbston for the first time, at Waitiri Creek Wines, on February 19.

"We decided to make that change mainly because of capacity and ease of gig around the site," Civic Events co-promoter Brent Eccles, of Auckland, said this week.

"We love playing [in Bannockburn], it was a cool little venue, but we've just outgrown it and want to try something different.

"Millbrook is great, but it's not a winery and where we can we like to play wineries. The opportunity was there to make this move and we think it's a good one."

Waitiri Creek marketing manager Paula Ramage said staff were delighted to be included in the tour.

"Our location close to Queenstown means that even more people will be able to attend what has become an important musical date on the summer calendar and we look forward to sharing great music and great wine with locals and visitors alike."

Tickets go on sale in November.
