A crime has been committed in Queenstown, but luckily Youth Booth members are on the case.

"Crime Scene Investigation: Who done it?" is one of the fun activities lined up by youth workers at the revamped Stanley St centre for the nationwide Youth Week movement from May 19-27.

Young people can take part in a handball competition on the basketball court of Wakatipu High School on Monday, starting at the second break, with prizes to be won.

The gold-coin entry for each team will go towards the annual 40 Hour Famine appeal.

There will be a cupcake competition outside the school's old music room on Tuesday at second break.

Cupcakes baked at, and brought in from, home will be judged on looks and taste. A $50 voucher will be presented for the best cake and gold-coin entry money given to the 40 Hour Famine.

Teams of five from each house assemble in the school's old drama room at second break to put their detective skills to the test on Wednesday.

"Suspects" will leave evidence for the sleuths to investigate, with the assistance of Arrowtown community senior constable Beth Fookes, to win the "CSI trophy".

The school "pool bomb" begins at second break on Thursday, complete with barbecue and "throw a sponge at a teacher", in aid of the 40 Hour Famine.

"Combat Challenge" will be held on the basketball court on Friday at second break. The prize for the strongest person will be a voucher.

A team of high-school pupils will be in the cage at the top of Queenstown Mall all weekend to raise funds for the 40 Hour Famine.

Youth art is on display all week in Fluid Visual Communications on Duke St.

Donations go to the famine appeal.

The theme of Youth Week this year is "Love the Skin You're In". The week aims to highlight the achievements and contributions people aged 12 to 24 make all year, and encourage their participation and connections to their communities.

• The Youth Booth opens for young people on weekdays between 3pm and 6pm.
