Kingsview School pupils (from left) Lou-Al Milner (10), Sebastian Schneider (10), Taine Hattaway (10), Damien Milner (8), Mackenzie Shewan (10), Nicoli D'Alves (13), Max Nicol (10), Nicoly Matiussi (12) and Ben Nicol (12) demonstrate the results of 18 months of French language lessons by staging a cafe scene to an audience of parents yesterday.

The year 4 to 8 pupils from the Frankton school each announced who they were in the fictional French family then sat down at the table to order sandwiches and lemonade from "le garcon".

LCF: Fun Languages for Children manager Nathalie Wilson, who lives at Arrowtown but is originally from Normandy, said learning languages benefited a child's development, helped them understand other cultures and would create overseas opportunities for them later in life.
