It puzzled the three bears and now it is puzzling Matterhorn South Backpackers manager Tony Panter. He wants to know who's been sleeping in his beds?
He has asked Wanaka police to investigate a reported break-in at the Brownston St accommodation on Thursday night.
It appears up to three people climbed through a bathroom window into the room, slept in all three beds, had a shower, used the towels and then left the next morning.
Mr Panter thinks they climbed back out the window again because the room to the door was left locked. No damage was done to the room.
Mr Panter, who has only been the manager for a month, does not think it has happened before.
"I know the previous managers pretty well and they've never mentioned anything like this happening before. It must be isolated," Mr Panter said.
Constable Pete Reid said up to three people could have slept in the room but police had no leads.
"It is surprising but it does go on. It doesn't get reported as much as we would like."
