For Ash Guthrie, his office is also his playground. In this week's Off Piste, Ash fills us in on what it takes to be the terrain park team leader at the Remarkables.

Why did you choose this job?

Because I love snowboarding.

Is it your first season?

I can't even count how many seasons I have done. Second season here at the Remarks with four at Mt Hutt and a couple overseas in between. I don't know why I come back, I just can't help it - must be an addiction.

Where are you from?

Rangiora.

What were you doing before this?

I came straight from high school to the slopes, started off as an instructor and moved to Terrain Park about three years ago.

How would you describe your job?

Epic - hard work but it has good rewards.

What is the best thing about it?

To lap the stuff that you have built.

What challenges come with your job?

Weather - a lot of snow means a lot of digging.

What skills or qualities do you need?

A good work ethic and an understanding of mountain operations. It is not always just about building the features that you want. Also, you need to be able to hit everything you build in the park.

Who would your job appeal to?

Most people that ride park.

How are you settling in?

All good - been here three seasons so I'm pretty settled.

What is your best advice to people who move to Queenstown for seasonal work?

Save first, come with money and get here early.

What has been your most amusing, interesting or surprising on-the-job experience so far this season?

AJ from the park crew and his snow dance choreography.

What are you looking forward to this season?

Our Forum Picnic in the Park and Tric Slopestyle Series happening on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 - see you there!
