Snowsports fans are guaranteed to get a lift when they meet English NZSki staff member Ryan Mitson at the Remarkables.
Job title: Lift operator at the Remarkables.
Q) How many seasons in the job?
Why did you choose it?
A) This is my fifth season in total, but first time in New Zealand and first year as a lifty.
Q) How would you describe the work?
A) The job is great. It's cool interacting with people from around the world, helping them and ensuring they have a great day. Everyone is out there to have a great time, which makes the days at work fly by.
Q) What's the best thing about it?
A) Being on the hill on a bluebird day cutting a few laps in the sun. Epic.
Q) The worst thing about it?
A) Getting behind a shovel on a heavy-snow day until your arms nearly fall off.
Q) How are you settling in?
A) Queenstown is epic, so much stuff to do and such an atmosphere.
Q) What's the best advice you have for someone moving to Queenstown for seasonal work?
A) Get here early so you can find work easier, as jobs get snapped up pretty quick around here. Same goes for accommodation.
Q) What is your most amusing skifield experience?
A) The first thing that comes to mind is getting on television at the European X Games in France by waving two cheeseburgers in the air. The cameraman was after one, but no chance.
