A Performance Centre has been set up at NZSki's Queenstown ski areas, giving snowboarders and skiers access to some of the world's top coaches, a consistent training programme and monitoring progress.

The programmes will be launched at Coronet Peak and the Remarkables ski areas this winter and will provide skill sessions for people wanting to ski or ride at a higher level, improve on existing abilities and push boundaries.

Held across both skifields, the programmes are suitable for adults and children from 8 years old.

New programmes included the Peak Performance Junior Team, Parklife School Holiday Camp, Parklife Junior Saturday Team and Introduction to Parklife.

Revamped programmes include Parklife Junior Team, the hugely popular Women's Ski Workshops, High Performance Programmes and the 10 Saturdays Programme.

Performance Centre manager Toby Arnott said the the centre aimed to provide a platform for people to develop their skill level "with the consistency of the same small group and one highly qualified coach throughout".

"Training camps that are part of the Performance Centre enable skiers and riders to hook up with a group of like-minded people with similar goals so everyone can have heaps of fun getting to the next level of ability and beyond.

"We see it being particularly popular with local kids, whom we want to use the centre programmes as a basis from which they can grow," he said.

The Performance Centre team will be hosting an information evening for anyone interested in the programmes on May 18 at 6pm at the Queenstown Snow Centre, Duke St.
