"A very small number of redundancies" are planned at MediaWorks Queenstown following a decision to integrate the operations of MoreFM and Q92 in the resort.
The new station will be known as Q92 More FM.
MediaWorks Radio Southern Lakes/Central Otago general manager Tim Lockhart said the company had been considering how best to strengthen its profile.
"The option we kept coming back to was to take our two prominent local stations and combine them . . .
"Everyone benefits - listeners have a stronger local station, advertisers reach a bigger local audience . . . and operationally we can focus our attention into one local brand rather than spread ourselves too thinly."
Q92 breakfast show hosts Emma Lange and Margo Berryman will become the breakfast hosts on the new station.
The station's music would still be available in Queenstown as The Breeze on the 99.2FM frequency.
Mr Lockhart said he was working through redundancy matters with staff and "where possible, we have tried to integrate roles to minimise redundancies".
"These changes are a bold move for the Queenstown radio market, and we are confident this is the right approach to give our region the best quality local radio we can offer."
The changes take effect from later next month.
