Two Queenstown buildings were named this year's top properties in the Southern Registered Master Builders (RMB) 2010 House of the Year and RMB Commercial Project Awards on Saturday night.

Naylor Love Ltd was awarded the commercial project of the year and the retail and business project of the year for its development of the Te Ahi project.

The Te Ahi project is the final piece of the Post Office Precinct site.

It has been designed to incorporate rainwater harvesting, heat recovery air-conditioning, automatic daylight-control lighting and CO2 monitoring controls.

The project was extremely well built, especially considering the time frame of the build and operating constraints, judges said.

Newco Builders Ltd won the new homes over $2 million category and the PlaceMakers House of the Year Supreme Award for its house in North Ridge Estate, off Malaghans Rd.

Judges praised the home's smart layout, sheltered outdoor living and standard of workmanship.

Ajax Building and Contractors Ltd, of Gore, was presented with the new supreme award for the renovation of the year.

The company won the $250,000 to $500,000 renovation category for its renovation of a 1860s villa near Lumsden.
