Roundabout proposed

A spate of minor car accidents at a busy Wanaka intersection has council traffic planners pushing for the installation of a roundabout in the middle of Mt Aspiring Rd's heritage avenue of trees.

Queenstown Lakes District Council project managers Ken Gousmett and Rob Darby submitted a report to the Wanaka Community Board yesterday which proposes a roundabout where Sargood Dr and Old Station Rd intersect with Mt Aspiring Rd.

Mr Darby said several recent "minor" accidents at the intersection had highlighted a need for traffic safety concerns to be addressed.

The QLDC also wants to carry out an upgrade along Mt Aspiring Rd, renewing road seal and improving footpaths, as part of a scoping project on the main western route exit from Wanaka.
