A "business-style" breakfast, which will feature two guest speakers - members of Parliament Todd McClay, of Rotorua, and Jacqui Dean, of Oamaru - is being held at the community centre on Friday.
Billed as an "entertaining way to start the day", the breakfast is one of a series of funding initiatives which local volunteers have organised in a bid to expand the centre's function-hosting capacities.
Fundraiser Linda Osborne said about 100 tickets were available for breakfast with the MPs.
The funds would go towards a proposed 488sq m extension, which would more than double the size of the building, she said.
The existing 327sq m community centre was built in 1991. It doubles as a town hall for Lake Hawea residents and includes a small library, part of the Queenstown Lakes District Council's library network.
Population growth at Lake Hawea had increased demand for services, with more than 2000 residents in the area compared with about 300 during the early 1990s, Mrs Osborne said.
A larger library and expanded facilities for weddings, funerals, conferences and public gatherings were needed, she said.
The fundraising breakfast starts at 8am on Friday at the Lake Hawea Community Centre. Tickets cost $40 and can be purchased from Sailz Cafe.
