Prepare to enter The Cult when the eagerly awaited psychological thriller produced by Queenstown's Great Southern Film and Television company hits the airwaves later this month.

The Cult is a multimillion-dollar, 13-part serialised high-concept drama described as Prison Break meets Lost.

It revolves around a group of 20-somethings trapped within a bizarre cult and their liberators' efforts to get them out before it's too late.

As the mysterious Enhancement Day approaches, some members desperately want to leave the secret community known as Two Gardens.

However, the Leader has lost his mind, cult members are factionalised and those locked within the Northland bush compound start to unearth dark secrets.

A crew of almost 200 has worked on the project since the first scenes were shot at the end of April.

Bodelle de Ronde, Kip Chapman, Gareth Reeves and Dwayne Cameron star as the international 20-somethings who resurface within the cult after going missing from their families for years.

Latham Gaines plays charismatic cult leader Edward North.

Renato Bartolomei, Kate Elliot, Simon London, Rachel Nash, Andy Grainger, Will Wallace and Sara Wiseman play the diverse New Zealand and overseas relatives and strangers who converge to liberate their loved ones from Two Gardens.

> The Cult, TV2, Thursday, September 24, 8.30pm.
