Skifield to appoint new head

Treble Cone skifield is ready to appoint a new managing director after the resignations in December of two local businessmen from the board of directors.

Tom Elworthy, a company director who heads the Pisa Range winter vehicle testing facility southern hemisphere proving ground and who also has interests in the Dart Milford tunnel to connect Queenstown and Milford Sound, has been appointed as a new adviser to the board of Treble Cone Investment Ltd.

Mr Elworthy said his immediate role had been focused on providing the company with a new structure to advance Treble Cone skifield.

An announcement about a new managing director at Treble Cone was expected in "the next couple of days", he said.

Treble Cone skifield's acting manager director Tim Hudson and fellow board member Dave Pickard resigned in December, after a six-month appointment period.

The pair were brought on in May last year with a brief to re-engage Treble Cone with the Wanaka community, after the skifield suffered a backlash from customers when it raised lift pass prices in 2007.

Mr Hudson told the Otago Daily Times yesterday he had always understood his appointment was an interim one.
