In what is thought to be the first promotion of its kind for the resort, Destination Queenstown is running the week-long spring sweepstake for free hotel room nights provided by all 19 Queenstown members of the New Zealand Hotel Council.
The sweepstake is open to everyone, and will open at 9am today and close at 9am next Monday, August 8 (NZ time).
Destination Queenstown CEO Tony Everitt said it was a great chance for international visitors to "bag a bonus" for their New Zealand trip, as well as for Kiwis looking for a getaway.
When asked by the Otago Daily Times whether the move was a response to a drop in visitor numbers during 2011, Mr Everitt replied to the contrary.
"It's just a celebration of the festivities that are coming up and a token of good faith looking forward to all the people coming to Queenstown."
He said concerns about accommodation price gouging in New Zealand during the cup had been a hard perception to shake off, and a false one.
"We're aware that some people might be putting off a trip because they think accommodation may be expensive or hard to find. In fact, here in Queenstown there's still very good availability in our hotels and across all accommodation types and price ranges, from budget to five-star, during September and October."
Winners will receive two consecutive nights for two people.
"We suspect there'll be a few winners who may want to stay longer," Mr Everitt added.
Entry details can be found on the Destination Queenstown website.
