Swim Bootcamp launches tomorrow at the Queenstown Events Centre to help Wakatipu residents get in shape for the ski season.
Queenstown endurance athlete Adrian Bailey will teach the weekly circuit training class in Alpine Aqualand and lead participants through drills and swim techniques for an hour every Tuesday and Thursday morning for 10 weeks.
The goal is to have participants doing a 1500m swim by the end of the programme.
Thirty-four people trained at the inaugural circuit training session last Wednesday.
"It's really enjoyable to teach a class of such enthusiastic locals because they're all starting to think seriously about training and conditioning with the ski season coming up," Mr Bailey said.
"I want to make these classes as fun and rewarding as possible, as well as achieving the results people want."
Lakes Leisure chief executive Fiona McKissock said the programmes were an exciting step forward for the Queenstown Lakes District Council-controlled organisation.
"We're aiming to be the Wakatipu's one-stop-shop for fitness and fun. Over the next year we'll be rolling out a range of new cost-effective programmes we've been working on for some time. We're really excited about them because we'll have a host of facilities and programmes all under one roof, which are fantastic value for money."
For those keen to try before they buy, Lakes Leisure is offering a free circuit-training session in the Queenstown Events Centre auditorium on Wednesday at 6.30am.
