Tourist charged with dangerous driving

A Chinese tourist has been charged with dangerous driving and another issued with infringement notices as a result of complaints from other motorists yesterday.

Sergeant Mark Gill, of Queenstown police, said a 36-year-old man was stopped in Arrowtown about 6pm and charged with dangerous driving after he was seen crossing the centre line on "numerous occasions'' on State Highway 6 while driving a rental vehicle through the Kawarau Gorge.

"It caused oncoming vehicles to take evasive action.''

The man's rental car agreement had been cancelled, and he was not allowed to drive as a condition of his bail.

A 42-year-old male Chinese tourist was issued with infringement notices about 10.30am yesterday after police responded to reports he had driven the wrong way through two roundabouts in Frankton, including the prominent BP roundabout.

The man's rental car agreement had been cancelled.
