Update on land rezoning plans

The Queenstown Lakes District Council will update members about 12 different progressing plan changes, the majority involving land rezoning, during its strategy committee meeting tomorrow.

The committee expects to be briefed about issues such as the Arrowtown boundary framework as well as Remarkables Park, Queenstown Airport and Shotover Country private plan changes.

Affordable and community housing is also on the committee agenda. The objective of the plan change is to introduce affordable housing into the district plan.

The committee recommended Cr Leigh Overton replace Cr Cath Gilmour on the affordable housing working party.

The long-standing debate surrounding the Arrowtown boundary and Arrowtown South subdivision, which was appealed in 2010, will be brought to the committee's attention as the May hearing approaches.

Plan change 39, the Arrowtown South private plan change, proposes to rezone 30ha of rural land to provide for a residential zone.

The new zone would be bounded by Centennial Ave, McDonnell Rd and the Arrowtown golf course.

The council rejected the plan change and, at a pre-hearing conference almost a year ago, the court directed both plan change 29 and 39 be heard together on May 14.

Committee members will also be updated on key issues of the district plan review process such as "reflecting community feedback", "implementing community strategies" and "streamlining resource consents."
