Staff in shops in Queenstown and Frankton are thrilled their window displays on Friday won trips to Milford Sound and the World of Wearable Art in Wellington.
Representatives from radio station More FM, Queenstown Winter Festival and American Express decided the display in Shoe Clinic, on Beach St, best fitted the theme "wonderland" out of more than 100 entries in the Wakatipu.
Shoe Clinic owner Elias Lilo said his team was aiming to win one of the prizes when they painted a mannequin blue, clothed it in a ball gown and masquerade mask of tinfoil and surrounded it with branches and festive decorations.
The five staff members and three guests would go on a scenic return flight and excursion to Milford Sound as their prize, Mr Lilo said.
An "Alice in a Winter Festival Wonderland", complete with homemade "eat me" cupcakes and a "drink me" vodka bottle, created by the staff of designer fashion store d t carter, in Remarkables Park town centre, was judged the overall winner.
The display was created by manager Airini Robinson and sales assistant Carmen Burgi.
