The National Youth Brass Band of New Zealand will visit Queenstown for a concert on February 19, as part of its tour of Otago and Southland.
The band members are selected annually through a rigorous nationwide audition process and they completed a successful performance at the 2009 International Youth Musicale in Japan.
Musical Director Graham Hickman, who has been conductor of the NZ Army Band and is the reigning New Zealand champion conductor, is full of praise for the young musicians.
"This is, without doubt, the highest quality brass and percussion youth ensemble New Zealand has seen for some time," Mr Hickman said.
For its Queenstown performance, the audience can expect the band to perform a wide range of entertainment including works by Stravinsky and Shostakovich, New Zealand composers Gareth Farr and Ken Young, along with well known jazz standards and a vocal tribute to Elvis Presley.
