Committee to discuss plan

A Queenstown Lakes District Council committee will discuss commissioners' recommendations for stage two of the proposed district plan today, but no formal decisions will be made until next month.

Council planning and policy manager Ian Bayliss said in his report to the planning and strategy committee the recommendations would be presented to the full council on March 7 for decisions.

Stage two covered zoning and mapping annotations for Wakatipu rural areas and Arrowtown urban areas; transport; earthworks; signs; open space and recreation; and visitor accommodation.

In all, 650 submissions and 100 further submissions were received on the notified stage two provisions, containing 15,602 submission points.

Visitor accommodation attracted the most submissions (366), followed by the Wakatipu basin (244) and map changes/rezoning (208).

Hearings were held throughout July and September.

Mr Bayliss said publishing the report brought the recommendations into the public domain. However, they were not yet a decision of the council and as such had no legal effect.
