School’s record UE results

A record 80% of Wakatipu High School’s 230 graduating students achieved university entrance (UE) last year.

Principal Oded Nathan says that’s outstanding — "it’s something we’ve been aiming for, and we finally got there".

The result also placed them fourth out of the country’s 185 public co-ed schools.

They were second in 2024, however last year’s percentage was higher.

Nathan also points out some year 13 students couldn’t achieve UE as they didn’t do UE-qualifying courses.

"It doesn’t mean 80% of our students go to university, but it means they’ve got their best possible qualification, and they’ve got as many doors open and options available to them as we could possibly provide."

He is also pleased 74% of Māori students achieved UE.

Nathan checked their results against single-sex state schools — "our boys would have finished second and our girls would have finished third, so I thought that was pretty cool too".

In other end-of-’25 results, 13 attained scholarships, including eight returning students. Their NCEA Level 2 pass rate was 89% and Level 2 with excellence was 20%.

He says 80% of all their year 10s also achieved literacy and numeracy co-requisite results, "which we’re absolutely thrilled about".
